Melbourne: All The Lovers - x-posted
Join Zoe Belle Gender Centre on Friday 19 November for All the Lovers, a social event for lovers and significant others of trans folk. All are welcome, regardless of relationship status, sexuality or gender!

Polly Cocktail Bar - 401 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, Australia
7pm for Lovers and/or Significant others. 9pm Trans* folk
All are welcome regardless of relationship status, sexuality or gender.

Please feel free to contact us at info@gendercentre.com if you have any questions.

NB: ZBGC would like to acknowledge that we were unable to locate a suitable fully accessible venue for the All the Lovers event after a number of great venues with fully accessible and gender neutral bathrooms have closed their doors over the last 12 months. Polly is accessible but the bathroom is regretably not. We have located the nearest fully accessible public toilet at the corner of Kerr and Smith Streets in Collingwood. However, Red Tongue Cafe (just down the road at 275 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy) have always in our experience allowed those who need to use the bathroom to use theirs, as they understand that fully accessible bathrooms are extremely lacking in the area. You can check out other accessible bathrooms in the area by visiting www.toilart.org.

NYC release of the Femmethology Wednesday 7pm @ Bluestockings

Femme–an identity that has caused controversy, celebration and ridicule–is now the topic of a two-volume set from Homofactus Press and editor Jennifer Clare Burke titled Visible: A Femmethology. Femmethology calls the LGBTQI community on its own prejudice and celebrates the diversity of individual femmes. Award-winning authors, spoken-word artists, and totally new voices come together to challenge conventional ideas of how disability, class, nationality, race, aesthetics, sexual orientation, gender identity and body type intersect with each contributor’s concrete notion of femmedom.

Stories of Cell(ve)s Replaced

Every seven years a body replaces all it’s cells. None of us are the people we were seven years ago. February 11th 2002 author Sassafras Lowrey was kicked out of hir rural Oregon home when it was discovered ze was queer. Tonight ze weaves a tapestry of raw and honest tales taken from hir forthcoming books “GSA to Marriage: Stories of a Life Lived Queerly” and the “Kicked Out” anthology in this celebration of escape and survival. PoMo Freakshow's Traitors without (T)reason Monday July 14th at 8pm!!!!!

Photobucket

Kestryl and Sassafras are a queer couple that, despite their best efforts, pass as straight more often than they like to admit. Perforating privilege and complicating queerness, Traitors without (T)reason explores the betrayal, invisibility, sacrifice, subversion, and loss that are inextricably tied into public passing. Are you with us or are you against us?

Lesbian Connection magazine!
From: ElsiePub@aol.com

Hello from Margy at Lesbian Connection magazine!  I’m trying to get the word out to lesbians everywhere about our FREE magazine.  In case you haven’t heard of LC before, or if you just lost touch with us, here’s some info:

Lesbian Connection is the free worldwide forum of news, ideas, and information for, by, and about lesbians.  We’ve been publishing since 1974, and we mail issues out every other month in plain brown envelopes (the word “lesbian” doesn’t appear anywhere on the outside).

This magazine is a grassroots forum, which means it’s truly written by our readers.  On its pages you’ll find info for lesbians on places to live and where to travel, lesbian B&Bs and guesthouses, websites, cruises, festivals, conferences, lesbian land and retirement communities, products (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.), campgrounds and retreats, lesbian lawyers and realtors, as well as the comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out For,” and much more.  There are also reviews, articles, and letters dealing with whatever issues LC’s readers are talking about, from “The L Word” to health issues, relationships, and politics.

So, if you’re a lesbian and you’d like to start receiving LC, all you need to do is email us (elsiepub@aol.com) your full name and complete (snail mail) mailing address and we’ll be happy to add you to our list.  (By the way, our mailing list is totally confidential; we never sell, loan or share it with anyone else.)  We’d also like to know where you heard about us.  In case you’re wondering LC survives on the donations we receive from our readers.  However, contributions are voluntary and subscriptions really are free to all lesbians.  Our goal is, quite simply, to connect the lesbian community worldwide.  (F.Y.I. our official name and address is Elsie Publishing Institute (EPI), PO Box 811, East Lansing, MI 48826, ph 517-371-5257, fax 517-371-5200.  EPI is a tax-deductible 501(c)3 nonprofit charity.)

We hope to hear from you soon, and feel free to forward this email on to your lesbian friends and list-serves!

For Lesbian Connection,
Margy

P.S. If you email us by the end of the month we should be able to get you into our next mailing.
